After-School Program will be in session Monday - Thursday.
3:16 PM - 4:15 PM: Skills and Studies – Students are separated into grade level while given an opportunity to work on their daily homework, projects, and studying with support from day school teachers to strengthen their academic skills in the core subjects. Teachers aides will provide one on one or small group tutoring based on student needs. Students in need of additional support may work with our academic advisor to improve in the areas of math, reading, writing, science, social studies, and positive behavior catered specifically to their individual needs.
4:15 PM - 4:30 PM: Snack/Brief Recess – Each after-school student will receive a nutritious snack and milk. A wide variety of snacks will be prepared by the schools’ food service department and served by grade level. During this time, we encourage students to share their opinions and ideas on key character-building subjects with others from their grade level. This encourages students to build friendships and feel heard among their peers.
After each grade level finishes snack, the students will be given a brief recess where they will either go outside to play, into the gym to play, or in the library for story time depending on the weather. This allows the students to focus on building relationships and ground themselves before returning to a learning environment.
4:30 PM - 5:30 PM: Academic Enrichment – During this time we engage the students in a variety of activities they may not have the opportunity to do during day school. These lessons are specifically designed to be hands-on, fun, interactive learning experiences that enhance knowledge on topics covered in the school day curriculum and common core standards. These activities are led by program staff as well as community volunteers and representatives of local and county agencies who partner with the program. Some examples include: learning math through robotics and engineering, exploring science through experiments and horticulture, learning languages and culture through foods and games, and discovering new career interests through field trips to various local businesses and services.
5:30 PM - 5:46 PM: Structured Physical Activity – Using evidence-based physical education programs such as SPARK, PowerUp PE, The Walking Classroom, and GoNoodle students engage in physical activity until they are picked up from the after-school program for the night.
Showcases will be held in the Cornell Elementary School Library from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM with a free meal served after the event. We encourage all parents to come to support the students as they share what they have learned over the previous 8 weeks.
